Established in 2000, The Ambalama Leisure Lounge is located 40 kilometres from Colombo and is situated close to where the Low Level and High Level roads meet, in Hanwella.
The structure facing the road is the main Ambalama Restaurant complete with its earthy tones and rustic décor theme.
This restaurant is extremely popular with visitors travelling both to and from Colombo as its location makes it ideal for a short or long break, for a snack or meal.
The Breakfast buffet service is especially busy with regulars flocking for the Sri Lankan menu that includes bread, rice, string hoppers and many more, served alongside tasty curries and accompaniments.
For lunch, Ambalama presents its famous Rice n Curry buffet served with all the requirements including leafy mallums, mouthwatering curries and sweet tooth desserts.
For dinner, guests can enjoy a hearty menu of hoppers, kotthu roti, fried rice, and a host of other tantalizing items from the à la carte Menu with pizza, Chinese, eastern and western favourites also listed.
The Ambalama Leisure Lounge operates under an eco tourism concept and is spread across some six acres and all structures were built using sustainable methods across numerous stages.
There are five cottages that all include en-suite hot water showers, air-conditioning, cable television and private balconies. The cottages are simply appointed but very comfortable, cozy and restful. The balconies offer serene views of lush greenery that lies beyond.
Each cottage is designed and decorated as per the occupation and lifestyle of its given theme.

Wadu Maduwa – Made of wood for the carpenter
Five standard double rooms with hot water, air-conditioning and cable television are also available.
For larger groups, The Ambalama also presents the Guru Gedara (Teacher’s House) that can accommodate a family of ten, the Panchakarma (Principal’s House) for upto four pax and also eight Dutch Style double rooms as well.
Night Camping facilities are also on offer for nature-bound guests and include the tent and all other requirements such as a bonfire and barbecue.
The paths connecting the cottages with the other elements are paved and very natural with winding roots and naturally occurring ponds. There are benches positioned in many places that invite guests to take a seat and soak in the silent and calm rural ambiance.
Basking in natural glory, the Ambalama Leisure Lounge Ul Pan Geya (swimming pool) is just ideal for a dip as the sun rises, day-time lounging or for a cooling soak as the sun sets in the evening. The swimming pool is large, clean and inviting, making it just right for any time of the day.
In-house guests can enjoy their meals at The Wadiya – an open air forest bound dining venue – just moments away. The Ambalama Guest Service Team will efficiently plan menu choices with guests in advance, so guests will savour plentiful, healthy meals in this lovely and relaxing natural setting.
In the night time, a row of brightly lit torches mark the path to the Wadiya and on request, romantic meals for any special occasion can be easily arranged. The adjacent Inguru Wadiya is a pavilion for in-house guests to enjoy a drink with spicy bites.
Special barbecue items are also on hand and the Ambalama Chef Team will serve up a delicious menu of freshly grilled barbecue meals with all the usual sides. The Ambalama Leisure Lounge also provides outdoor catering facilities for special events.
To keep guests occupied, Ambalama Leisure Lounge features the Kamatha Play Area for kids and a collection of board games also. For the more sporty, badminton, football and cricket can be easily organized in the large garden space.
The Ambalama Bar is closer towards the main road within the Restaurant. The Ambalama Bar is fully stocked with a choice of beer, wine and spirits alongside refreshing and delicious cocktails. A moreish menu of bar bites is also available.
The Ambalama Guest Service Team will be happy to organize airport or island wide transfers and day trips to enjoy the Seethawaka Botanical Garden, Leisure World Water Park or a boat ride on the Kelani River.
At the Ambalama Spa, the resident ayurvedic physician will first obtain some details and then suggest a treatment such as a massage or an herbal steam bath ayurvedic therapy. The spa therapists are fully trained to provide the best results, assuring guest satisfaction.
With its large property size, Ambalama Leisure Lounge is popular with day and overnight outings for corporates, universities, schools, family picnics and more.
The Ambalama Leisure Lounge Day Outing Package includes a welcome drink, a lovely lunch, access to the swimming pool and tea service towards sunset. The large and open garden grounds are also available for company events, games, festivals or celebrations.
The Ambalama Events Team works closely with the client, in order to ensure any goals such as team building or personality development are met during the visit.
Ambalama Leisure Lounge further offers the Attapattu Maduwa Meeting Room with break out facilities and all audio-visual solutions for upto 200 pax. The Attapattu Maduwa is suitable for meetings, seminars, workshops, exhibitions and more.
For weddings, homecomings or any special occasion that calls for a celebration, the Ambalama also presents the Adawiya Reception Halls with a total capacity of upto 600 pax.
