This ancient house under the bund of the Bulankulame Wewa is believed to be the oldest house in Sri Lanka, dating back almost 400 years.
At its inception, the Chief Occupant was Suriya Kumara Wanniyasinge Loku Banda Bulankulame Dissava and the present occupant is Dr. Janaka Bulankulame. The date of the original Structure was 1906.
Today, sadly no more to be seen, in the original walawwa there were rooms to store rice, salt, dried fish and to keep guns which were used for hunting deer and stables with horse and carriages.
ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ යටත් විජිත පාලන සමය තුළ නිලධාරීවරුන් වාසය කළ නිවෙස් බොහෝවිට වලව් ලෙස හඳුන්වනු ලැබේ. බුලන්කුලම වලව්ව ද එවැන්නකි. බුලන්කුලම වලව්ව වසර 400 කට ආසන්න අතීතයකට දිව යන අතර එය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පැරණිතම වලව්ව ලෙස සැලකේ. වර්ෂ 1906 දී පමණ මෙම වලව්ව ඉදි කොට ඇත. බුලන්කුලම වලව්වේ ප්‍රධාන පදිංචිකරු වූයේ සූරිය කුමාර වන්නියසිංහ ලොකුබණ්ඩා බුලන්කුලමේ දිසාව වේ. මුල් වලව්වේ සහල්, ලුණු, කරවල ගබඩා කිරීමටත් මුවන් දඩයම් කිරීමට භාවිත කරන තුවක්කු තබාගැනීමටත් අශ්ව කරත්ත සහිත අශ්වගාල් සඳහාත් කාමර තිබූ බව සඳහන්ය. මුල් වලව්වේ ආකෘතිය වර්තමානයේ දක්නට නොලැබීම කණගාටුවට කරුණකි.
